Alpharetta, GA – November 11, 2009 A large mass transit agency in the Southeastern US has been in the process of implementing a complex bus radio and AVL solution for over 6 years. The project was suffering from many delays due to major disagreements over functionality and contract terms between the transit agency and the AVL vendor. Though progress was being made, it was slow and inconsistent, due in large part to not having an independent third party to settle disputes with the vendor. Cajana was able to provide the Agency with expertise and knowledge in the areas of systems integration, data modeling, contract negotiations, and third party oversight, as well as resources with transit process experience. These resources employed Cajana's unique Third Party Assurance (3PA) model to build a consensus between agency business users and vendor project resources. The Cajana resources were also able to use their transit experience to help establish internal processes and procedures for managing and maintaining the system long term. Finally, Cajana was also able to provide specialty expertise with data modeling and analysis, to help the agency to build a methodology for using Automated Passenger Counting (APC) counts for FTA and NTD reporting purposes. “Before Cajana entered the project, many of us believed there was no hope for this system ever being implemented or used. Now we stand to be a shining example for other transit authorities on how to fully leverage an advanced AVL/APC system. We credit Cajana's resources for much of this rapid turnaround" said one of the Assistant General Managers involved in the project. “We chose to partner with Cajana on this initiative because of their demonstrated knowledge and experience with Transit processes and Third Party Oversight of complex projects. Cajana not only brought a world of experience, they also brought us very knowledgeable, capable, and professional people.” Brian Ellis, Cajana’s CEO, spoke briefly about the challenges faced by many small to medium-sized government entities, like Transit Agencies. “The economy has forced many of our government clients to rethink their traditional ways of implementing and supporting key technologies. Budget pressures mean everyone is being asked to deliver for less, yet the constituents continue to expect the same level of services and support. Today, an investment in large project governance and oversight is more important than ever to show a commitment to the taxpayers to stay within budget constraints. With our experience in managing and overseeing large projects, Cajana is able to work with all parties to get projects done quickly and efficiently."
